The individuality of the different jurors shown in their regular occupations is emphasized on level one in a way that informs their solemn purpose on level three. As in a Dutch mural of the seventeenth century, only one figure on level-one looks directly back at us, providing a route inward to a community characterized by co-equality and independence.
